Care Economy and Elderly Welfare in India
Introduction
India is witnessing a significant demographic transition. According to the United Nations, the country's elderly population (60 years and above) is expected to exceed 340 million by 2050. This shift has increased the importance of the Care Economy, which encompasses all paid and unpaid services that support the physical, emotional, and social well-being of individuals, particularly children, the elderly, persons with disabilities, and the sick.
For UPSC aspirants, the Care Economy is an important topic that connects Governance, Social Justice, Economy, Public Health, Women Empowerment, and Inclusive Development.
