BITSAT (Birla Institute of Technology and Science Admission Test)
BITSAT is a highly competitive, national-level engineering entrance examination conducted by BITS Pilani. It is the sole gateway for admission into integrated first-degree programmes — including B.E. (Engineering), B.Pharm, and Integrated M.Sc — across its three Indian campuses (Pilani, Goa, and Hyderabad) and its international campus in Dubai.
Strict Board Eligibility Criteria
- Subject Combinations: Class 12 with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics (PCM) for engineering courses, or Biology (PCB) for B.Pharm.
- The 75%/60% Rule: Minimum aggregate of 75% marks in PCM/PCB in Class 12 boards, plus at least 60% in each individual core subject. No rounding off is permitted (e.g., 74.9% is strictly ineligible).
- Dropper Policy: Only freshers (current Class 12 students) and one-year droppers are eligible. Students retaking the entire set of Class 12 boards, or second-year droppers, are barred.
- Direct Admission: Board toppers (first rank holders) of central and state boards are offered direct admission, bypassing the BITSAT exam, provided they meet the PCM/PCB percentage rules.

The "Bonus Questions" Rule
Candidates who complete all 130 core questions before the 3-hour timer runs out can opt to unlock 12 additional bonus questions (4 each from Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics/Logical Reasoning), allowing them to score beyond the regular maximum. However, once unlocked, they cannot go back to edit or review answers for the initial 130 questions.
Application Process and Format
The exam is usually conducted in two independent sessions per year. Candidates can sit for either a single session or both; if both are attempted, BITS Pilani filters out the lower score and uses the best of the two performances for the final merit list.
