India's Sixth Positive Indigenisation List

On August 18, 2026, the Department of Defence Production notified the sixth Positive Indigenisation List (PIL), covering 405 strategically important defence items worth an estimated ₹3,070 crore in business potential (389 items for Defence PSUs, 16 for the Indian Coast Guard). These are components — Line Replaceable Units, sub-systems, spares, raw materials — for platforms including the Tejas LCA, Su-30MKI (and its AL-31FP engine), ALH Dhruv, LUH, T-72/T-90 tanks, BMP-II, MRSAM, and various warships. Notably, the six lists together have shrunk in size even as sophistication has risen — the first five carried 5,012 items combined — reflecting a shift from easy substitutions to harder residual ones. Since the SRIJAN portal launched in 2020, more than 15,700 items have been successfully indigenised, generating roughly ₹9,000 crore in import substitution.
