Major Festivals of Northeast India and Their Cultural Heritage

Northeast India is known for its rich cultural diversity, vibrant tribal traditions, and colourful festivals. The region comprises Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, and Tripura , each with unique customs, languages, music, dance, and indigenous heritage.

Some of the most important festivals include Bihu (Assam), celebrating the agricultural cycle; Hornbill Festival (Nagaland), showcasing the traditions of Naga tribes; Losar (Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim), marking the Tibetan New Year; Sangai Festival (Manipur), promoting the state's culture and tourism; Chapchar Kut (Mizoram), celebrating the completion of forest clearing for cultivation; Wangala (Meghalaya), the harvest festival of the Garo community; and Kharchi Puja (Tripura), an important religious festival.
