What is NCDRC?

The National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (NCDRC) is India's apex consumer dispute redressal commission.

It was established in 1988 under the Consumer Protection Act, 1986.

Current Legal Framework

The present consumer protection framework is primarily governed by:

Consumer Protection Act, 2019

It provides a three-tier mechanism:

  1. District Consumer Commission

  2. State Consumer Commission

  3. National Consumer Commission — NCDRC

Mandate

NCDRC deals with:

  • Consumer disputes

  • Appeals from State Commissions

  • Revision jurisdiction

  • Consumer protection matters
