EAM Dr. S. Jaishankar’s visit to Jamaica, Suriname & Trinidad & Tobago (2–10 May 2026)
What: External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar visited Jamaica (2–4 May), Suriname (6–7 May) and Trinidad & Tobago (T&T) as part of outreach to Caribbean nations.
Key outcomes:
Jamaica: Delegation talks with PM Andrew Holness and FM Kamina Johnson Smith; 3 MoUs on health cooperation, solarisation and broadcasting.
Suriname: Co‑chaired 9th Joint Commission Meeting with FM Melvin Bouva; met President Jennifer Geerlings‑Simons; India handed over passion‑fruit processing facility (Indian grant) and offered soft loans.
T&T: Bilateral meeting with PM Kamla Persad‑Bissessar; 8 MoUs signed across sectors.
Significance:
Diplomacy: Expands India’s engagement in the Caribbean, strengthens South–South ties and diaspora outreach.
Development diplomacy: Grants, soft loans and capacity building boost India’s soft power and influence.
