India Becomes World’s First to Commercially Produce Bio-Bitumen (Jan 7, 2026)

Objective: Promote sustainable, eco-friendly roads, reduce dependence on crude oil
Process: Converts crop residue into bio-oil blended with bitumen, at 15% blending can save Rs 4,500 crore in foreign exchange
Developers: CSIR-CRRI, CSIR-IIP
