- What: GoI + TN Govt set up National Shipbuilding & Heavy Industries Park (NSHIP), an SPV, on 29 Jan 2026.
- JV structure: VOC Port Authority + SIPCOT (TN) — 50:50 stake.
- 1st SPV formed under Shipbuilding Development Scheme (SbDS).
- Scale: ~2,000 acres, 2 km waterfront (1,000 ac shipyards + 1,000 ac ancillary/social infra); anchor shipyard target: 0.5 million GT in 10 years.
- MoU signed Sept 2025 (Union Min. Sarbananda Sonowal, MoPSW).
- SbDS: Part of ₹69,725 crore maritime package (Oct 2025); ₹19,989 crore allocated; target 4.5 million GT/year by 2047; guidelines notified 27 Dec 2025.
- TN static GK: CM — M.K. Stalin; Governor — R.N. Ravi; Capital — Chennai; NPs — Mudumalai, Gulf of Mannar.
