CAC49 Adopted 7 Codex Standards Developed under India's leadership

• Event: 49th Session of Codex Alimentarius Commission held 6-11 July 2026 in Geneva, Switzerland.[CAC49]
• Achievement: Adopted 7 codex standards and guidelines developed under India's chairmanship/co-chairmanship + approved new work for cashew kernels under Codex Committee on Processed Fruits and Vegetables [CCPFV].
• Indian Delegation Led by: Rajit Punhani, CEO FSSAI + technical experts from FSSAI and Spices Board.
• 7 Standards Adopted:
  1. Standard for dried coriander and fresh curry leaves
  2. Standards for Vanilla
  3. Standards for Large Cardamom
  4. Guidelines for Safe Use and Reuse of Water in Food Production and Processing
  5. Guidelines for Control of Campylobacter and Salmonella in Chicken Meat
  6. Provisions relevant to Joint Presentation
  7. Multipack Formats under General Standard for Labelling of Prepackaged Foods
• Codex Alimentarius: International food standards body established by FAO + WHO in 1963.
• UPSC Relevance: GS3 - Food Safety, Trade, Agriculture exports, GS2 - International Organisations.
