India became the 123rd WTO member to join the Agreement on Fisheries Subsidies (AFS) by depositing its Instrument of Acceptance on 20 July 2026.

- First WTO agreement with an environmental sustainability objective
- Targets harmful subsidies linked to:
- Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated (IUU) fishing
