Ladakh Declares 23 Heritage Sites as Protected Monuments
In July 2026, the UT Administration of Ladakh notified 23 heritage sites as Protected Monuments under Section 3(1) of the Jammu and Kashmir Ancient Monuments Preservation Act, Samvat 1977 (1920 AD).
The sites are spread across Leh, Sham, Nubra, Zanskar and Kargil and include petroglyphs, rock carvings, Buddhist sculptures, meditation caves, monasteries, forts and inscriptions.
