Tripura’s ‘Sarinda’ Instrument Gets GI Tag

The traditional bamboo string instrument ‘Sarinda’ from Tripura receives Geographical Indication (GI) status.
Significance: Reflects local craftsmanship and cultural heritage.
Features: Made from bamboo, 65–70 cm long, with an oval wooden chamber covered with skin; strings made of metal, thread, or animal gut.
Tripura now has 4 GI-tagged products, including Queen Pineapple and Risha.
