Biotechnology Research and Innovation Council (BRIC)

  • BRIC = Biotechnology Research and Innovation Council.

  • It is an autonomous body under the Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Ministry of Science & Technology.

  • Established in 2023–24.

  • It subsumed the governance of 13 autonomous DBT institutions, while retaining their individual research identities.

  • BRIC institutions are referred to as iBRIC.

  • With the inclusion of Regional Centre for Biotechnology (RCB) and ICGEB, the broader grouping is called iBRIC+.

  • The objective is to promote coordinated biotechnology research, innovation and translation.
