Coringa Wildlife Sanctuary

  • Located near Kakinada in Andhra Pradesh.

  • Part of the Godavari mangrove ecosystem.

  • Area is approximately 235.7 sq km.

  • It is an important mangrove ecosystem at the interface of the Godavari and the Bay of Bengal.

  • Mangroves provide:

    • Coastal protection

    • Nursery grounds for fish and crustaceans

    • Habitat for birds and wildlife

    • Protection against storms and tidal impacts.

  • More than 120 bird species have been recorded.

  • The sanctuary also has an important nesting site for Olive Ridley turtles.
