Tripura: History, Tribes and Important Facts
Tripura is a northeastern state of India bordered by Bangladesh on three sides and Assam and Mizoram to the east. The capital city is Agartala . Historically, Tripura was ruled by the Manikya dynasty , one of the longest-ruling royal dynasties in the Indian subcontinent. The princely state merged with the Indian Union on 15 October 1949 and attained full statehood on 21 January 1972 .
The state is home to several indigenous tribes, including the Tripuri, Reang (Bru), Jamatia, Noatia, Halam, Chakma, Mog, and Uchoi communities. Agriculture, bamboo handicrafts, rubber cultivation, horticulture, and tourism are important sectors of the state's economy.
Tripura is renowned for the Neermahal Palace , Unakoti rock carvings , Sepahijala Wildlife Sanctuary , and Tripura Sundari Temple . The state's Queen Pineapple has received a Geographical Indication (GI) Tag , enhancing its export potential and supporting local farmers.
