• The Centre for Marine Living Resources & Ecology (CMLRE) released the National Report on Deep-Sea and Distant-Water Fishery Resources of the Indian EEZ in August 2026.
• The report consolidates nearly four decades of oceanographic research and three decades of systematic surveys.
• It covers India's 2.37 million sq km Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ).
• The report provides a roadmap for the sustainable development of India's Blue Economy while conserving marine biodiversity.
• Major research support came from the FORV Sagar Sampada.
• CMLRE functions under the Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES).
